The idea I had in mind for this thread was for users to list a few books that they liked, and others who also liked those books could suggest some more. I didn't intent for it to be personal thread for people to recommend books to ME.

I was replying to Evil Cookie. I should have quoted her to make it obvious.

- anything by Francoise Sagan

Basically I love deep, psychological themes, families, women, parent-children relationships, deep character development.
Already planning to check out Tortilla Curtain recommended here. Please suggest more!
Evil Cookie---
I have read a few of the ones you listed and the only one I did not love (but liked a lot was Secret Life of Bees.... so I just remembered that the only Jodi Picoult book I read, which was really quite good- was Plain Truth- and I would think you will love it.. And she is a prolific author (though as I said, this is the only one I read of hers).

Try anything by Elizabeth Strout, but start with Amy & Isabelle. Also, you might like Anne Patchett and Barbara Kingsolver. The Dry Grass of August by Anna Jean Mayhew also comes to mind.

OMG! That book threw me for a loop and I like loops.

Thanks so much everyone!! These are great. Mayvenne, I've read Plain Truth and in fact I think I've read every one of Picoult's books and loved most of them, my favorite was probably House Rules.

Marlow, yes, I've just discovered Elizabeth Strout recently and read Amy and Isabelle and Olive Kitteridge. I'll definitely check out the other ones you mention.

Oh, I also adore food-related books, one of my latest faves was Julie and Julia, also Chocolat and stuff by MFK Fisher. Loved the concept of Eat, Pray, Love but didn't enjoy the actual book that much. So if anyone has any recs along those lines, that'd be great too. Thanks!
