Either of those links work with copy and paste. I'm a new member so it doesnt work (second link needs to be "crowds" without the space)

I go to this Borders all the time. I don't always buy, but I consistently buy there.

I'm also deeply saddened that close to 11,000 people will lose their jobs. That's crazy and depressing!!!

What are Boston alternatives? What's everyone's fav bookshop?

I prefer independent bookstores to the chains; my favorites are Porter Square Books in Cambridge and Brookline Booksmith in Coolidge Corner. Both are great places that will order books for you, host aurhor readers, and have ddicated readers on staff (love that!)

Book Ends in quaint Winchester Center may be an option, next to the commuter rail. Never been but hope they're staying put!

I'm sure others know of some independent bookstores remaining. Maybe we should all buy our holiday gift cards at these stores in support of these places.

And don't forget Trident Books on Newbury St. Heard they have good breakfasts.

Amazon and the local library. Seriously, those are the best places for me. And when you want to sit and read, patron one of the local coffee shops.

Trident Booksellers on Newbury Street and Brookline Booksmith in Coolidge Corner are my favorite book stores. There are also Barnes and Nobles in the Pru, Kenmore Square, and I'm sure there are others as well.

Good suggestions. I think the Barnes in the Pru probably is the closest store, in location and style, to Downtown Boders. The Coolidge Corner store is large and feels like a chain even though its not.

I always had pretty good luck at the used sections of the places around Harvard Square. You can always find something in there for dirt cheap that will hold your attention.

Barnes & Noble at Coolidge Corner has been closed for over a year. Score one for the little guy!
Toad Hall Books in Rockport is yet another excuse for a day trip to that mellow town.
Boston Book Annex on Beacon St just west of Park Drive is a used-book lover's dream. So is Rodney's in Central Square.
And Harvard Bookstore in the square of the same name keeps on keepin' on.

Brookline Booksmith is great. I also like the B&N in the Pru although their fiction section isn't huge.

I used to go to this cool used bookstore called Diskovery in Oak Square, Brighton. The owner always gave great deals (the price would be written inside the books, but she'd usually give it to me for cheaper) and her cats wandered around the store. Very funky place.
