The closing of the Quincy Center parking garage has certainly made parking in the garage at Quincy Adams more difficult. Back in the 1980s, the city of Quincy asked the MBTA to close the Independence Ave entrance so that residents on that side of the station could avoid having commuters park on our streets. This same goal could be achieved with residential parking permit areas, and those of us living in the area could enjoy the convenience of accessing the T by foot. If you are interested in organizing with other South Quincy residents to petition to have the Independence Avenue pedestrian walkway reopened, please email us at: openquincyadams@gmail.com

Thank you!

With the popularity of the Red Line and public transit ever increasing, this would be a great thing. I'm not a Quincy or Braintree Resident, so I can't sign your petition, but I support your endeavor! Seems rediculous to close off that entire neighborhood to the station.

Agreed. Resident Parking stickers (at least during work hours) could eliminate some of the street parking issues during the week. It's counterproductive to cut off pedestrian access to a public transit station. They're designed to serve the neighborhoods in which they're located.

Brings back memories of late night 3rd rail/barbed wire hopping (on nights where I shouldn't do any kind of hopping!). Would've been so much easier had they just kept the darn thing open.

might be a solution:

Plan targets entrance dispute at Quincy Adams T station - News - The Patriot Ledger, Quincy, MA - Quincy, MA

Key sounds a bit absurd. What about any visitors?

Couldn't they just require parking permits for the streets that are close to Quincy Adams? Each household could get 2 permits plus a visitors pass for free. If they want more, they could buy additional ones. Anyone parking on those streets (without the permit) instead of the Quincy Adams lot would get ticketed.

It seems like that would be a realistic way to open up the entrance to Quincy Adams without causing too much trouble. The people on the other side of the tracks would love it since their property value would jump way up, and they don't have to worry about a mass influx of people parking on their streets.

What am I missing here?
