I'm a 31 year old girl and I just moved to Boston about 6 months ago. I was raised Catholic, but I attended a non-denominational church back home that I loved! I don't really consider myself Catholic anymore, and I know that seems to be pretty dominant out here. I'm looking for a non-denom or something similar church that has a lot of young adults 20's-30's. I live in Somerville, so would like something within 20 mins max, and preferably somewhere I can drive to that parking isn't an issue. I would also love any suggestions/ideas where I may be able to meet other young people.

Grace Chapel in Lexington might be what you're looking for. I understand they have a pretty big young adult program and just opened a second church in Watertown. There are small non-denominational churches cropping up all over the place these days, as well.

There are a couple right in Somerville and North Cambridge. One that meets at the Somerville Theatre in Davis and one on Rindge Ave in N Cambridge.

For meeting young people... it is hard to meet anyone else in Somerville! Porch Fest this past weekend was happening... Davis Sq was a sea of young people... They're everywhere here.

I have a friend who goes to a church near Kenmore Square called Church of the Cross, they meet in Ruggles Baptist church, which is a big building on the corner of Park and Beacon Streets. It is a low-church Anglican place, so it has some things that you'd probably be familiar with from your days in the Catholic church (Eucharist every week, structured prayers and stuff), but all the music is done by a band and probably would be familiar from your time in a non-denominational church, along with a pretty informal atmosphere. The demographic there is right in your age range, I would say that most people seemed to be in their mid twenties to mid thirties when I visited. The reason for this is because it meets in the late afternoon or even early evening I think, so people can stay up late Saturday night and not have to get up for an early Sunday service. She lives in Somerville too, and while it might seem crazy to talk about parking near Kenmore, she drives every week and never seems to have a problem finding a spot somewhere in the vicinity. I go from time to time with her, but I tend toward the mystical and even occult in church, so the somewhat New England-ish stodginess there isn't really for me, although the people there are great, super nice, and as I mentioned, more in my own age range than the orthodox churches I frequent.

Well unless you officially renounced Catholicism, or was baptized into another religion, you ARE still a Catholic, newer Catholic churches (last decade or so) are pretty different, they run the masses different, have bands, talk to the people normally instead of reading from the books verbatim, try to relate the readings to real life etc. Much more personable and with the times. I'm not in the area anymore but my current church is NOTHING like the old Cathedral type, dark, chanty masses. It's bright, there's a band, seat's not pew's, no kneeling. It's actually a nice place to be, and IS a Roman Catholic church. I'd ask the diocese where there are some newer type churches. I was told when I joined mine that the last Pope was aware that the church was loosing all the younger people and that's what started the change. You'll most likely wind up out in the burbs for it, but worth a shot.

New Hope Churches are probably more to your liking.

There is one in Norwell. A very large and popular one is situated in downtown Plymouth.
