It is forbidden to smoke on MBTA property including outdoors on a platform or bus waiting area.

Yet this doesn't stop multitudes of smokers lighting up at the Quincy Center bus platform. Likely the same at other stations, save the classier stops in certain obvious locales.

Today, after a very long and frustrating delay, someone decided to vape on the outdoor North Quincy train platform. Signs are listed forbidding smoking, but I guess it's okay as it's not tobacco (or IS it part tobacco?)

It's a weird and bothersome smell, at least to me.

Would this activity bother most of you? Maybe some of you already vape? Should it be banned on T property?

Okay, it's less offensive than cigarettes or cigars, but shouldn't these people have some decency in public?

Judgmental on my part? I do not smoke.

It's just blowing flavored smoke as far as I know. Seems mild compared to the spitting and defecating problems we have discussed here.

It's not even flavored smoke, it's flavored water vapor (hence the term "vape"). And to answer bostonguy's question, no it doesn't have tobacco in it. Most have nicotine in it, some don't.

At the end of the day, people vaping around me doesn't bother me at all. If I can smell it at all, I can only do so barely and it usually has a pleasant candy-fruit aroma.

No. Not allowed, as per MBTA.

Not that it matters. People smoke cigarettes on the South Station platform with impunity.

Hmmm...never noticed smokers at the South Station platform, and that's indoors. I must be there at off hours.

I don't think anyone here would ever advise asking/confronting the perpetrator to stop? It's part of life, get over it? And not everyone will follow all rules, myself included. It's just for 10 minutes at most.

If this behavior persists, it'll be several people vaping at once. Maybe then it could be bothersome
.

The South Station platform is outdoors, but generally under an awning. That's where I noticed people smoking. Never in the actual station. I've started going to Ruggles instead and there's one lady who always smokes in the section that's closed for repair.

And yeah, probably not worth the effort for someone with no actual authority to try to stop. Occasional random enforcement might stop it if the MBTA cared.

I would encounter the same people smoking each day at the outdoor South Attleboro platform. They sometimes did it sitting on a bench right in front of a NO SMOKING sign. The worst part of it is that they congregated right at the end of the ramp and most rush hour morning people had to walk through their 2nd hand smoke.

No self respecting adult should be vaping. But then again that's just my opinion.

I was waiting for the red line the other day at DTX where 2 people were vaping. Some woman mentioned that it was not allowed and their response was "we don't care, you can't stop or deny vapelife."
