Purely discussion purpose here. Who do you think has a larger (or faster growing/more opportunity) hub for finance? Boston or Charlotte, NC? Hubs and I have been in discussion about this for a few days and can't come to a conclusion.

Charlotte imo is a faster growing city for young people but I wouldnt count them mostly as finance employees. Plus the bathroom bill caused a small hit as far as companies second guessing coming here.

Boston is more establish as a city itself and therefore I think a larger hub for more established finance companies and employees. I feel like Charlotte would be a more transient city for people trying to get in then transfer out.. Maybe I'm way off lol... what are your opinions.

You asked the same question in September. What was the consensus then?

I believe finance companies tend to locate non critical back end operations to charlotte. Think hr, data centers, payroll, non critical anaylyst reports. Abundance of top talent is still only found in large cities

Hubs is in investments/stock trading Has a degree from one of the top 5% elite business schools worldwide ... We're actually looking to buy in Charlotte but just debating over the two cities in general . The above poster said I already asked this question and I just didn't remember. I'll have to go back and see the posts.

More importantly... what is your budget and expectations? If you want a 400k home with good schools and under an hour commute then your only choice is charlotte

GFCI 19 The Overall Rankings

Boston is a massive global player, Charlotte is a big player in the States. Boston is the short answer. Charlotte may have more opening as a %, and may be more appealing especially in the entry-level market.

Boston has a CSA of 8.23 million people while Charlotte has a CSA of 2.68 million people. So the Boston area is a good bit larger. So judging solely by size Boston most likely has a bigger finance sector, and it also has the advantage of being relatively close to NYC which is the undisputed finance hub of the country. But Charlotte certainly punches above its weight with regards to finance.

Boston is also pretty big for insurance, not sure if you'd consider that to be "finance".

Overall, there is more opportunity for career mobility, stimulation, and wealth creation in Boston. Charlotte would be an easier life, but less stimulating too. Boston is a difficult and intense place for someone with a good career.

Your husband would be working with others from top business schools and good experience levels, making things more competitive, which drives innovation and growth. And like others said, close to NYC and there are opportunities for finance with orgs outside of finance (e.g. insurance, consulting, etc.).

Overall, and IMO, people coming to Boston are looking to step up and build. People going to places like Charlotte are looking to maintain.

Edit - To clarify, Boston isn't the mecca of Finance. NYC and Chicago are.
