In Massachusetts/Boston, who else would you tip besides the usuals, e.g., waiters, cabs, hairdressers, bellhops, room service, food deliveries, etc.?

For example: I was wondering if I should tip the NationalGrid guy that comes to my place and turns on the gas in my apartment?

I wouldn't tip the gas guy, but say thanks, especially if by some miracle he shows up when they are supposed to. Tip your dog groomer, hair dresser, furniture delivery persons, tip anyone who lifts anything heavy for you or delivers something for you. And lastly and most strangely, beware of tip seeking persons when they go to the store to get a scratch ticket for themselves and you go, oh get me one too! And you win, they want a cut. Tell those persons to pound sand.

I like that rule-of-thumb. Yeah, just started wondering since I've heard that, in some towns, tipping/gifting the garbage-men at x-mas is the norm, but I think this mainly applies to homeowners. Thanks a bunch.

You do realize you should tip all of the people who reply to your post, right?

If I get my dog into the groomer on short notice i will tip them for working me in and going above and beyond for me. I would tip a hairstylist maybe, if it was a special occasion and they are doing something special. it just seems to be that everyone is getting tipped for doing their jobs. maybe we should all get tipped.
