Seems like Everett is a little more affordable. How bad is it?

Thanks!!

You scared off any replies for 10 days on a relatively active board.

If you're from out of state, it is unpopular here to be unpositive about places that overachieve in affordability, population density and ethnic mix.

It might give someone the faulty impression that there were eletist, snobbish anglophiles about.

Disclaimer: some of my best friends succeeded in the challenging school systems of classical urban multi-lingual settings.

I live in Everett. It's a bit rough around the edges, with a lot of Italians, Brazilians, and Haitians, but people generally get along. There's plenty of bus service to the Orange line. Hubby and I moved from Somerville, and got a bigger apartment for about the same rent. I've run into a lot of other "rent refugees" since I moved here.

People who moved to Everett because they were priced out of their last apartment.

I brought my first house in Everett simply cause the tax were low, lived there for 20 years.
Then I move to Florida in 1998 and Everett went downhill ever since.
I was up there 3 weeks ago and its STILL a dump with all the minorities moving in who don't care about keeping up their properties.its a shame.

That's strange. Most of the Brazilians in my neighborhood keep up their properties well.

Overall, Everett is not a safe area. Sad, but true.

If you were to do a little research, you will see that the violent crime stats in Everett compare pretty favorably with the stats from cities and towns with similar or even smaller populations. I think that the recent influx of Brazilian immigrants has made some of the denizens of Everett a little nervous. That reaction will occur in any well settled city when a new group of people move in. It's understandable.

I personally would not live in Everett. Very depressing, a bit dirty and rundown. Rent is cheaper there for a reason. Transportation is an issue, it's harder to get to the major highways and there's no T station. If you're looking in that area, I'd suggest Malden over Everett. There's easier access to T's and buses and highways, and there are nicer enclaves.
