Just doing some investigating. Approximately how much would it cost to heat a 2400 sq ft, two-story home with oil heat in the winter in the Salem area, keeping the house around 70? What might the air conditioning bills be like?

Thanks!

Depends on efficient the windows and walls are. Is the house properly insulated, have newer windows? With decent windows and insulation you may fill the oil tank up every 5-8 weeks in the winter. Electric bill might be around $100-$130 depending on other usage like an electric dryer and such. I've found that if you just keep the house around 70 and don't lower it during the day it helps. If you lower the temperature, it makes the furnace work twice as hard to get the house back up to 70...so it isn't worth adjusting the temperature.

In the summer the AC bills might be between $140-$200 if the weather is fairly warm.
