Hi there - my husband and I are currently living in the Bradenton/Sarasota area. I have been living here for about 11 years after attending the local art college and have to say, much has changed. It depends on what you are looking for, but this area is very much up and coming. Our master planned community called Lakewood Ranch, has a ton to offer for families, downtown is thriving, hotels, new buildings, more business and fantastic beaches. I would definitely consider this area if you want to mix in a little faster pace with the old Florida feel. Whenever I look around, like Venice further south is a much older crowd, or more north of us heading into Tampa, which is especially commercialized - I would say Sarasota really hits the sweet spot! It's a very pretty area with plenty of great restaurants and fun things to do. Many of us say this is a great home base and we have the #1 rated beach in the entire country. Hope this helps

Thank you to everyone who responded! It says a lot about the people in this area. We have decided to look into Wesley Chapel, Oviedo and a planned community called Fishhawk near Tampa. You all are great.
