Yeah, Buffalo has stated clearly they would rather be a small part of Toronto, than part of a mega region with Rochester and Syracuse.

The tolls create an artificial barrier. The toll portion of the thruway many times goes 20 miles between exits. Maybe because it is toll free through the Buffalo area, you might not see what I'm saying.

Also, 3-4 million population working together to change legislation is much stronger than 1 million

M&T Bank headcount growth in Buffalo likely to continue as it crests 8,000 local employees
Quote:
M&T Bank’s overall footprint has grown in visible ways over the last 10 years, especially with its 2015 acquisition of Hudson City Bancorp and expansion in other markets where it does business.

The hometown workforce has been expanding rapidly as well.

That’s good news in a region where M&T is already a dominant financial presence and where retail banking is moving from branches to the internet.

M&T’s (NYSE: MTB) headcount in Western New York crested 8,000 for the first time in 2021. The bank had 5,000 employees 10 years ago.

Of M&T’s approximately 730 branches, only 52 are in Erie and Niagara counties, according to federal data from June 2021. But 44% of the bank’s workforce is here, split between those branches and facilities that support back office, customer service and other corporate personnel.
Also good news for downtown from M&T:

M&T alters back-to-office policy again, responding to 'growing optimism' about pandemic
Quote:
“Now, we share the growing optimism across the country as Covid numbers drop and mask mandates begin to lift, and look forward to the undeniable energy present when employees are able to come together more often,” M&T spokeswoman Julia Berchou said. “While all M&T offices have been open for some time on a voluntary basis, we will begin to welcome even more employees back into our non-branch locations beginning March 7.”
Western New York Zip Codes Ranked by Affluence
Quote:
The very top of the affluence rankings looks fairly similar. This year, Clarence Center's 14032 had the highest overall affluence score. The Clarence ZIP also ranked first for median household income ($123,021), percentage of housing units with nine or more rooms (39%) and percentage of households with income of $150,000 or more (39.3%). The ZIP came in second place in seven of the other wealth categories.

ZIP code 14051 (East Amherst, Swormville) came in second overall. In 2015, it topped the list, followed by 14032 in second place.

A notable newcomer to the top 10 is Buffalo ZIP code 14202, which came in at No. 5, a tribute to the revitalization of portions of downtown Buffalo. The ZIP encompasses part of Allentown and extends south past Niagara Square to Canalside, stretching northeast across the waterfront.
Zip Code 14222, which includes part of Buffalo's Delaware District and Elmwood Village neighborhood, also is in the Top 10 at No. 8.

Sad story. And this is the route to the new STAMP place. So add another 1000 vehicles and 100 semi trucks to this road every day. Very poor planning all around.

^Yeah, there are more tragedies waiting to happen if they don't reduce the speed limit and get a 4 way stop at that intersection.

Sadly, that probably isn't the only fatal accident that has occurred there.
