My friend left his window open in West Delevan (not a great area), and someone stole his inspection sticker.
I have heard of the window stickers being stolen fairly regularly in Philadelphia (Philly had a REAR window sticker, which they did away with, because it was a spectacular failure).
The fact is that those stickers get stolen in Buffalo too... it's just a little tougher when it's inside the car.
My window stickers (both of them) never want to stay on the window. I have 3 vehicles (6 stickers) & I had to use double sided tape to reattach at least 4 of the stickers.

There was a story this year that they used cheap glue, and the inspection and registration stickers are falling off.
I made sure my window was clean, glue free, and dry before applying.
I wouldn't be surprised if they're issuing new plates with embedded RFI chips.
I would destroy the RFID chip (if you hit them with a hammer, it disables them). I would never want the government to have any ability to track me like some criminal.
I should hope that that day doesn't come, but our government has proven it's inability to use any wisdom or common sense.

The article in the news indicated that the need for new plates is due to a loss of reflectivity of some of the older, current issue plates.
I wonder if this has something to do with those new plate readers most of the police departments are using now. Maybe the older plates, as they get dirty, rusty, worn, dented, etc are too hard for the plate reading equipment to read.
Still, it is just another annoying expense, and a way to add a "tax"

Wow thats nonsense.
I see a ton of Ontario license plates that are so rusty, you can't even make out the letters.
The only non reflective NY plates are the custom ones, they look very dull.
Mine is falling off too. I did the same as Justin, about 3" of scotch tape along the left side, and it looks decent.
Just read this, I have the same problem.
