Is Lewiston the only other town that offers this mix in a smaller community in the Buffalo area? ?
East Aurora would be similar but no water, no Canada and no Artpark. Wilson has the water and marina but is much smaller. Ellicottville would also be similar but much farther from the urban core.

Not even close, not in the same league at all.
I forgot about East Aurora. Wilson is an example of what I was looking for in terms of places in the area that many people don't think about or know much about in that regard. Same with Ellicottville.
Lewiston is Buffalos Pittsford. One of the more uppity parts of the Buffalo area. Some of this is my opinion. It is a small town, a few shops in the center, but not a real downtown. The town is very clean, very well upkept and can be pricey in terms of the Buffalo area. You will be close to the water.
You will have a short commute to Canada, other than the border wait. Driving shouldn't be bad, open roads to one side and the parkway to the other.
Don't expect too much of a night life, Clifton hill may be a good alternative for you. With that, I have met some snobby people there, but you take the good with the bad.
Youngstown is a little further north, but it may be a good choice as well.
Interesting.....It sounds like if it was in the Syracuse area, it would be similar to Skaneateles or Cazenovia. Both are generally pretty affluent communities on lakes about 15-20 minutes from Syracuse. Clinton in the Utica-Rome area also comes to mind. Alexandria Bay and Clayton in the 1000 Islands region/Watertown area might be communities that are very similar in terms of set up, proximity to Canada and being relatively more affluent in comparison. Same with Sackets Harbor in that same area.
How are the elementary schools, and the property taxes in Lewiston?
Lewisto-Porter is a very good school district in general. I'm not too sure about taxes, but I believe Niagara County is up there. Home prices help to offset that in a sense though.
Good response, once you're up there a couple of winters, you'll figure it out, although it doesn't snow as much along the Lake Ontario shoreline as in Southtowns. Let me know what you think once you see what your taxes are.

I would think that they would be pleased with the schools and safety of the area as well.
$3000-$3500 per $100K assessed value for anything in Lewiston-Porter SD. Rural areas that fall within Niagara-Wheatfield SD are a little cheaper.
The tax rate for Lewiston Porter SD for Lewiston is $22.11 per thousand. Assessed at $100K less $30K STAR reduction = $70K net assessment. $70 times $22.11 = $1,547.70 School Tax per year for 2010/2011 school year
County and Town taxes are another $11.84 per thousand but Lewiston uses an 84% equalization rate so a $100,000 home would be assessed at $84K. Thus County and Town Taxes would be 84 * $11.84 = $994.56
For a total annual property tax of $2,542.26 for 2010/2011
Plus remember this tax IS DEDUCTIBLE from your Federal Income Tax thus reducing your Federal Income tax liability by approximately$850 per year. Roughly $2K per year net out of pocket in taxes to live in Lewiston. Far less than my out of pocket costs to live in Charlottesville, Va from whench we came. Plus up here we save over a thousand dollars er year in personal property taxes on our cars. Also it's nice not to pay sales tax on groceries.
