So I'm in community college right now, and am ready to get out of Dallas. I decided to go to Vermont, Burlington specifically.

So just a couple questions, first off, is there a decent selection of apartments in the city or at least close to it? I am wanting to get a 1 BR apt. I'm not sure how to search for apartments from here though, most websites don't offer much in Vermont. If anyone has a good website for that please let me know.

What is the area around the city like, how much snow can you expect each winter, is there lots to do? Is it a good place for someone my age?

I've got more to ask but I'll wait on that. Thanks

I plan on attending a community college there until I can transfer. As for a job, I may get a random part time job.

Your best bet for finding a decent apartment is going to be after May. There will be more options available once the collages go on summer break. One of the things you will need to ask is if heat is included in the rent. Some, not all renters are now not including heat due to the elevated price of heating oil. The Burlington rental market is tight. The city has once of the lowest number of rental units available per population in the country. Don't go by price alone as well. If you don't mind renting a dump, stay away from the lower priced section of the rental market. You can find a decent cheap place from time to time, but unless you have time to spend in the area when looking for a rental unit, don't waste your time. I'm not sure what is in the Seven Days at this time, but the rental market is not cheap. To keep costs down you may want to consider a roommate. With a part time job, it will be tough to afford an apartment and miscellaneous costs. You should also expect to only earn minimum wage or slightly more. Another option if you have transportation are the outlying towns like Colchester, Winooski or Essex. The prices in these towns tend to be slightly cheaper.
Snowfall averages are about 80 inches per year. This year we will pass that number without a problem. The storm we had just last week dumped about 34 inches. The further you travel from Chittenden County, the more snow there will be. I believe Jay(north) got over 500 inches a few years ago.
There will be plenty to do depending on what you like or dislike. Burlington is a collage town. There are several bars downtown, but not the selection you would get in a bigger city. There are outdoor activities galore.

I don't want to bum you out, but read Seven Days article. Burlington is a very hot city.
