Business idea: health bars (fees, sales, 2014, profit)

Maybe it's just me, but do you think a business idea with a natural health bar would be one that would work in today's society? People pack into loud nasty bars to drink poison and get wild, would the reverse of these bars work as a business? I'm not saying I would want to start one, but I think a social place for the health conscious would be something marketable? Maybe not.
That idea is already around, its called the "church social".
Putting this concept into a commercial format where you could make money is the challenge.
Bar and tavern owners make their money selling a lot of expensive liquor and beer to their customers, and sell other amusements and food to the people. Since the customers of a "natural health bar" wouldn't be impaired, its a tougher to get enough sales to make your commercial enterprise profitable.
I think these places to exist, its called suhi bars or whole foods or coffee shops. What are you envisioning some place where people come sitdown to mingle and eat baby carrots?
I sorta get the angle your comming at, a non alcoholic bar in sweden or norway or something like that just opened. I can see the niche and can sort of see the draw. Sometimes I don't feel like drinkin but feel wierd being in a bar when everyone else is drinking or drunk and I'm not but I still want the social atmosphere. ALso I work like 6 days a week so I don't have much time I can really afford to be going out drinking and still being fresh for work the next day where as some nights I still would like to go out and meet people and mingle without drinking.
I think hte biggest problem is this is such a small niche you have a hard time getting people in the door. Also what would you serve or how would you make money? entrance fee or selling smoothies or what?
I'm not saying it couldn't work but people looking to interact without drinking join meetup groups or a softball league or go sit at a smoothie bar with friends. How do you differenentiate ourself from those healthy activities which don't invovle alcohol and bring people together for free?

The whole idea of a bar is that the "poison" loosens inhibitions and makes it a more fun environment. I can't imagine even the health nut types sitting around
picking up on the opposite sex, telling jokes and playing pool or darts over a spinach and carrot shake.

It's a large niche in the sense that most people are spending the majority of their days and life not drunk so almost everyone is your clientelle in that sense but when you start an entirely new industry like this you have to edcuate the whole population on your business, idea and concept and why they should be a part of it and this is tough.
I think it would be a challenge to find a way to monetize this business. Also you would definately have to figure out what seperates your business from a coffee shop or other non alcoholic place where people congregate. I think a perfect example of a similar business is under 18 or under 21 nightclubs and dance clubs. WE have a large one in my city thats very popular with the younger kids, however because alcohol isn't served a good majority ofthe kids are getting drunk before comming, sneaking alcohol in or using drugs like ectasy instead of alcohol.
Its an interesting idea but think it would be hard to explain to people what the business and idea is and hard to get a product you could sell and make money. Alcohol people will buy drinks all night, food, etc. Non alcoholic people aren't going to be paying for juice or granola bars all night and not at any crazy markups like alcohol has

But women need real bars so they can get drunk and have sex with the office guy or random stranger and then the next day write it off to alcohol.
Interesting idea. Maybe targeting or marketing to recovering alcoholic might be a good way to go about it?
I do think it would be challenging since people have been going to bars in order to drink alcohol for hundreds of years.
I think you'd have to really think outside the box somehow and have something else that is a draw, like live music and other types of activities. Something like a cool coffeeshop .
I've heard of 'after hours' clubs that dont serve alcohol too.
Maybe something like that where people could go to wind down or sober up , rather than drinking more alcohol?
