I have to wonder, from a business point of view, why any business (coffee shop, pizza parlor, auto repair center) would choose to turn Fox News on the televisions in their waiting rooms/dining areas. Alienating a percentage of your potential customer base seems like a foolish move for a business. Regardless of your views, wouldn't it make far more sense to put on ESPN or the Weather Channel? Even CNN, which is middle-of-the-road, would make more sense.
I would say the same for anyone who displayed MSNBC.....but I have never seen anyone do that.
I don't know, but it is even funnier when ads for one of their competitors come on and they do nothing...
How to Make Thousands of Dollars With One Finger: Turn off the TV in your waiting room
I don't know about that. A TV in a waiting room would make the time go by faster, versus sitting there in awkward silence and constantly looking at your watch. I would wait 3x longer if I had something to look at instead of the other people in the waiting room. The magazines I usually find in medical offices and other places aren't that interesting.

Frankly, I wish most places would turn them off. I already got the news and don't need to hear them repeat the same story 50 times while I'm waiting on my car. Nor do I care about women's programs, or most talking heads, be they sports or anything else. If I'm in a sports bar and they're showing real time action, then OK. Keep the sound off, I can watch and see the score.
Even CNN is far to lefty. IMHO, among most middle class white American's Fox News is going to be the network news channel of choice. Makes perfect sense to me. However, as the previous poster noted, I wish they had no TV. In general, I hate TV and only watch a few shows on a few networks. Crime shows, or shows about Alaska, otherwise, IMHO, its junk. Even most of the sports anymore is unwatchable with all the commercials they have. The only way I watch sports is to watch a little, get up and do something, take a nap in the middle, mute it at other times.

Oh, please. CNN is left? Fox is so far to the right, that you only think everything else is left. Fox is right wing propaganda, pure and simple. They've been shown to lie and distort so much that it's amazing anyone can take them serious.
Seriously, why can't businesses just put on something like the Weather Channel. It's hard to imagine anyone finding that controversial.

I think that's the best way to go. I don't see how a TV would annoy people at a business if the sound is off. If you're interested in seeing a story, you can read the bottom captions or check it out on your phone for more information. Those who don't want to see or hear it can just avoid looking that direction. Everyone's happy. (Although it seems like there's never a time when everyone is happy)
In my doctor's office waiting room, CNN is the de facto channel.
At my independent car mechanic it's Fox News.
The used book store I find myself in at least once a week, the local public broadcasting radio station is on and usually offering select classical and modern Jazz.
Everyone is different and because of those differences we see a wide range of perception of what is deemed acceptable.
If I owned a retail store, it would most likely cater to an educated demographic so I would most likely have a television or radio receiver tuned to a news source that would reflect that.
