Advertisements

So let's say, you have an item for sale, it's 1 item because you're testing the market to see if someone would actually buy it, because you personally feel good about the item and it's usefulness.

You created an online listing for it, such as on eBay, Amazon, Craigslist, Facebook, Etsy, maybe your own webstore or Ecwid etc and you basically have a link to the listing.

How have you had success promoting a mere link?

I did this 6 years back, which actually launched what became a multi-million dollar company. Basically I managed to design attractive ads through Craigslist, the city didn't matter so much since it lead to an online store which offered international shipping. Ads were constantly removed or reported, ghosted etc, but I kept it effective enough to make those very first sales which costed nothing but my time. It's not the most ethical thing but that's how the small guy has to break in against all odds.

So now it's 2018 (or 2019, HNY) and web has changed a lot, so I'm asking for more ideas.

If it’s getting removed, it’s probably illegal.

the product isn't illegal, but promoting on CL platform is against their policy.

because CL has controls to block out spam, even ads that aren't spam

I'm aware, in fact I have a paid ad going on now. I'm hoping for other ideas apart from CL.

The two biggest ways to promote are organic: SEO and paid: AdWords.

You launched a multi-million dollar e-commerce company just 6 years ago and you don't know of ways to promote your business other than Craigslist?

Facebook? Instagram? Adwords? Amazon PPC campaign?

What's the link for? You said one product? Is your target customer the type who looks at Craigslist ads?
