I'm 20.

I'd like to be able to get real food (not just McDonald's) very late at night, at least on weekends.

I play golf. I don't need to be near a variety of courses - just one good one.

I fly small airplanes. I want to be close to a general aviation airport.

I need an upscale grocery store to be very close to me. Think Gelson's or Bristol Farms.

I like the ocean, but I hate fog.

I like to have a variety of restaurants close to me.

I don't want to live farther north than Santa Barbara.

I don't want to live somewhere where everything shuts down at 10:00 PM.

Why do you want to move to Socal?

Where is your job?
What line of work are you in?

Housing budget? Rent or buy?
Married? Kids? Within five years?

Long Beach for 1, 2, 3, 4 (I figure Trader Joe's is okay for you, not sure if there are any more. Google it.), 6, 7, 8.

5, not sure how much fog they get, I doubt they get much though.

The South Bay area (Torrance, Redondo, Hermosa, etc...) will cover all these areas.

I'm thinking any city on LA's west side - around Beverly Hills (you don't actually have to be in B.H.). When I was a young pup, I would be out clubbin' all night and go to any of the delis and diners on the west side and they'd be open all night. There were also upscale grocers like Bristol Farms, Gelsons, etc. Lots to see and do, airports nearby, and I always felt safe. Now that I'm an oldie (but still a goodie! ) I live out in the desert ... but I have very fond memories.

Hard to answer without knowing budget and/or where you will be working.

As far as where to fly out of .... do you have an airplane or do you rent? Hangar space is very hard to come by, and some airports have waiting lists for ramp parking. I fly out of Santa Monica (SMO) which is a great airport with good facilities, but you'll need to know your radios flying most spots in LA, especially flying out of the fields that sit under LAX B.

Charles, above, asked some good questions, that really need to be answered before we can help.
