Currently I have the option of moving to either Santa Monica or Fullerton. Between these two where should I move? I'm leaning toward Santa Monica but my parents are pushing toward Fullerton. Even though Santa Monica is relatively safe they say it's a better environment. My concern is whether or not I'll be bored if I move to Fullerton. I am from Chicago but am 45 minutes away from the city. I don't know how Californian suburbs are but over here it's boring as hell. I am young and looking for excitement.

Then Santa Monica would be a better fit. Fullerton is a fine city, but there's a lot more to do in Santa Monica.

Just curious, why Santa Monica or Fullerton? Most people come on here asking about cities that are near each other.

If you can afford it, Santa Monica is hands down more fun and exciting.

i've lived in both and although santa monica is more fun, it's probably at least 50% more expensive (a $1k apartment in fullerton will cost around $1500 in SM). fullerton is fun though and has a large young person population due to two colleges in the city. santa monica is on the beach though and is the heart of LA's westside with lots of great bars and restaurants. if you can afford it, santa monica would be more fun, but fullerton is not a bad plan b for a young person.

Santa Monica is not a suburb. It's a med-sized city surrounded by LA and it's downtown is pretty high rise.
Santa Monica is pricier to live, but more entertainment. I am moving near Fullerton and it has it's own nightlife since it's a college community.

Also need to consider climate. Santa Monica is right on the ocean with a very mild climate and a wonderful beach to have fun on. Fullerton is inland and has a climate similar to downtown LA; much warmer and at times hot during summer. Fullerton is probably at least 30 minutes or longer commute to the beach [Huntington Beach].

Odd comparison.

Is employment not a concern? Will you be commuting from either of these two cities?

my guess is that the OP will be choosing whether to attend college in either SM or fullerton.

I think you're probably right, in which case, school quality would (should?) play a much bigger role in this decision, rather than a "fun" area. Anyway, I'd vote for SM, but I'm kind of biased. I've heard good things are Fullerton as well.

Santa Monica has a junior college unless he is going to UCLA and wants to live in Santa Monica. Fullerton has a junior college and four year college.
