California is going to go bankrupt, unless the liberal politician's of this state, start to reel in their social programs. People dislike Arnold, however, at least he saw the facts: This states great zeal for socialism, to show the world, has failed and we need to end every social program under the sun.

However, YOU and I do mean YOU, people refuse to do so. You want your social programs, with money lining your pockets and you want others to pay for it. The others can no longer pay for it and you still vote for deficits. YOU people are sick.

The problem with socialism is, in the end, you run out of other people's money to spend. Margaret Thatcher.

Dear Phil, It is shown throughout the world every day that Margaret Thatcher was wrong. Every modern industrial nation is socialist to some degree.
Socialism works, and to think it doesn't requires a complete absence of knowledge of the modern world.

Perhaps the most socialist country today is China, whose economics are beating the pants off the US.

You can persist in your belief, but you may as well also believe there are dragons living in the Sierra.

Texas wants you.

The poster with the unhealthy fixation on Missouri has made it abundantly clear that he favors useless metrics. Easy to do when you live an insulated life due to the labors and largesse of others.

CA is not about to go belly-up anytime soon but its situation is dire. The raw budgetary and deficit numbers notwithstanding, an ever-expanding population coupled with a sinking infrastructure seriously threatens the "California dream." I believe that anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional.

?

Either too much Christimas rum, or another example of the lack of critical reasoning among the Conservatives.
A. "unhealthy fixation on Missouri", There is no evidence of a fixation on Missouri, healthy or unhealthy, the reader is left wondering what could be unhealthy about a fixation on Missouri.
B. "useless metrics" The poster unthinkingly quoted another unthinking post indicates that neither understand basic economics. The relationship of GDP to the taxbase of a political unit pretty simple economic which I would have thought would be obvious to the standard Mark IV adult.

Forget the Christmas Rum, I think we have another Salvia smoker here. WTF does this sentence mean?

As far as the rest of his post is concerned, fixing the state government economic problems is pretty simple, it is the same process your family would go through if you found that your expenditures exceeded your income and, just on a larger scale.

California's population growth rate last year was less than 1%, like the deficit, it ain't much.

I think it is going to be pretty funny if Jerry Brown succeeds, all these whackos are going to choke.

Aha! Finally!
(I thought this topic would eventually draw out the gunslingers to showdown ... was too quiet over the holiday, you know ... still waiting for the battles over the specific statistical foundations for the Op-Ed piece, though)

Here is one of the biggest pieces everyone's afraid of talking about to fixing CA's economic woes:

Consider this chamisa, if we stopped illegal immigration, and sent all the illegals back home, California's agricultural business, the nation's most productive, would crash, Salinas, Santa Maria, Oxnard, and many Central Valley and Imperial Valley towns would become ghost towns. The economic disaster would affect far more than the $40,000,000,000 crop value. The ripple effect of such a move would be worthy of an investigation by such renown and respected media journalists as Glenn Beck, or Rush Limbaugh, or Bill O'Reilly or that guy that got fired from CNN, Dobbs for excessive "honesty".

Ah ... Will they rush to take all the countless job openings going unfilled even as we write? Lazy bas***ds! *whip-whistling* ... dastardly unemployed, fouling up the works, again! If only everyone were as industrious as the rich! All the problems we endure would cease ...
