I'm a 29y/o single female looking to move to CA from Scottsdale, AZ. I have no idea what area would be good for me. I love living in a city with lots of nightlife and things to do but not sure if LA would be good because I want to work in the same city I live in to avoid an awful commute and I've heard LA is not as nice and full of crime. However, I grew up in a bad neighborhood in west Phoenix and have lived in great areas where 2 miles away seems like a ghetto, so I'm sure I could handle it but as a single girl who won't know a soul wherever I go I'd like to avoid the bad areas. Please HELP!!!

L.A. isn't really full of crime like it was years ago. It's the 2nd safest major city in America. Some people say that Phoenix is like a smaller version of L.A. so not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing for you personally. O.C. really has nothing to offer, it's kind of like a huge suburb.

I think the best advice for you is to actually visit all the locations you are interested in living in. It may cost a little money to do, but you will at least be certain what you are getting yourself into! Otherwise, you will base your move on others opinions who may not see cities the same way you do. I moved to LA (West LA) from Ohio and love it here. I live 3 miles from the beach, my commute is 30 minutes each way, there is very little crime in my neighborhood, and I can see the mountains just to the North. I am young and not terribly wealthy. LA is workable as long as you do your research!

San Diego is too sleepy for my taste. I love the Gaslight district but everything seems to be closed by 930 or 10. Newport is too whitewashed and boring for my taste. L.A. has good parts and bad, it can't be labeled as just one. We have all aspects here, some adjacent. Where I live I have night life easily until 3am very, very close. I have the urban vibe and I have Griffith Park right behind my hacienda.

Come visit and see what resonates with you.
