Hi All,

40 years old from Charlotte, NC/Single/No kids...Born and raised.....Went to college in North Carolina, settled in Charlotte....Worked in tv news for about 12 years until I got burnt out...then joined Corporate America as an administrative professional...Really tired of Charlotte...just burnt out regarding the city..Been there done that to everything.....Blah, Blah, Blah..u get my drift....What I want to do is sell my house(Fingers Crossed)...pack it up and move to Los Angeles...if not Angeles..somewhere in the burbs near LA.... Yes I know....way more expensive compared to Charlotte and totally different from Charlotte....but right now..I need that...no I CRAVE that..... With my background....do u think I could make it.....Just paid the last payment on my credit card, which is now at at $0 dollars... which mean no debt...no car payment...What do you think...Just trying to make a move for the 2012.......All feedback is encouraged and welcomed.

You only live once, so why not go for it?
I'd contact potential employers now and be ready to be out here asap for interviews.
Don't dismiss other parts of CA, if you see other work opportunities that are outside the L.A. area.

It sounds like you're a "city person", so limit yourselves to those. San Francisco, San Jose, L.A., San Diego, Orange County (pretty packed with people) and even Sacramento. There are good things about each community and plenty of places to explore near any of these.
People here complain about the weather for some of these places, but it's really like a Princess and the Pea story. There's not much to really complain about, especially when you compare the climate in any of these with the climate in other cities in the rest of the country.

What is the appeal of Los Angeles to you?

This is gonna sound probably cliche' to you....but its a singles city....Lot more to do....Lots of more potential job opportunities. Not to mention I could definitenly get with the palmtrees/sunshine/ocean. Plus Calfornia is so much more laid back than Charlotte. I actually work with a lot of people that moved here from other places and they think Charlotte is the "bomb"....I just look at them and smile....lol. Really think I have outgrowned the city.

Los Angeles is geographically a huge city, based on your statement, you will be happiest along the coast, Malibu, Santa Monica, Redondo Beach etc, not the San Fernando Valley, Culver City etc.

Culver City's less than 5 mi from the ocean and offers some excellent neighborhoods.

Yes, based on what you describe I agree with this. Look for a job in a place like the South Bay (Redondo, Manhattan, Hermosa, Torrance beaches) where there are many singles along the coast. The West side (Santa Monica) is ok if you like that sort of area, more of an 'I'm in the business (Hollywood)' feel.

Jobs aren't easy to find right now. So look for that first.
