This article shows that California is falling behind in economic growth to states like Texas. Look at the map where we are in the loser category.

Wouldn't it be great to have a state government that makes the economy a high priority like Texas.

Why? This was a far better state when it had 10 million people. I'd like to see it get back to that number.

Uh, why would you chose a state where the cost of living is through the roof, with houses that I can get in Texas for $200K costing over $400K in California? Not to mention the difference between a 9% tax on your income compared to no tax on your income. The only thing CA really has over TX would be the schools, I think.

Truer words couldn't not have been spoken. I'm an outdoors person in my free time. How the hell does one enjoy that?

It is important to remember that taxes are more than income tax. There is a two percent difference between the taxes paid in Texas versus California.

Considering that there is little public land upon which to recreate in East Texas, only West Texas has room to recreate. In East Texas there are few recreational opportunities. Then add in the temperatures and even worse, the humidity...

Life east of the 100th Meridian is nothing to be envied especially this summer.

Even with the overall tax difference, there is still the fact of housing and the overall cost of living being more than just a mere difference.

I do completely agree that the weather in CA would be enviable to many Texans, but I think there are a wealth of recreational oppurtunities throughout TX, especially where I have spent some time in central TX. The Austin area has almost more recreation than I have seen anywhere else I have been. But it also depends on the type of recreation as well...plenty of hiking/running trails...not so much great surfing.

Uhh, I think there is more that CA has over TX than the schools. Here are things that come to mind:

-Better Weather
-More tolerant people
-More natural beauty
-More vibrant cities
-More diversity

I could go on....economy is not everything. I would be moving to India or China if that were the case.

Texas sucks and I'm tired of these threads about Texas. If you like it so much you should live there.
