California ready to help combat Texas fires Cal Coast News

Texas has approached California but hasn't asked for help yet. California is ready to help even though you have your own fires to deal with.

Ironic isn't it? Constantly we hear about how much better Texas is than California. The wonders of Ayn-Randian libertarianism! Well, small government includes cutting volunteer fire department funding by 75%, which has put Texas at a huge disadvantage fighting these wildfires. Keep this in mind when certain Californians preach the wonders of Texas-style government cutting.

Oh for God's sake, trying to tie this into politics is going too far. When disasters strike, it's common to ask for and receive help from other states. In fact, there's this little thing called Mutual Aid that is a staple of emergency management. This happens to be something I know a little bit about.

I don't see how you can separate politics from Texas not being able to fight fires properly because the state cut 75% from volunteer firefighters just to save a measly $23 million.

Typical that you would take a sad natural disaster where families are loosing their homes and towns are being devastated and you would try and put a political dig on Texas with it.

Shame on you!

Or, shame on Texas for not funding its obligation to serve and protect its citizens?

This has to be the worst post I've ever read here at C-D. This has got be an all-time low here at the California board. Oh, and someone from Hawaii criticizing any other state, oh the irony.

Sure, no shame on Perry and the Republicans though, eh? I think they are up to about 4 million acres burned now.

Well when doesn't CA help? As a 20 yr resident of CA who now lives back east I'm always proud of CA.

For all it's problems, when you move away you realize when it comes to issues like public safety and being on the ball CA is way ahead of other states.

CA always steps up to the plate when other states need assistance.
