This makes me wonder. If we decide to go and help Texas fight wildfires, will Republicans in CA Legislature follow the example of their big brothers in DC and demand that we cut $1 from spending elsewhere (e.g. from K-12 budgets) for every $1 spent helping Texas?

Texas has approached California but hasn't asked for help yet. California is ready to help even though you have your own fires to deal with.

Ironic isn't it? Constantly we hear about how much better Texas is than California. The wonders of Ayn-Randian libertarianism! Well, small government includes cutting volunteer fire department funding by 75%, which has put Texas at a huge disadvantage fighting these wildfires. Keep this in mind when certain Californians preach the wonders of Texas-style government cutting.

As someone who has actually lived in CA, the fact is that CA accepts help from other states when they have wildfires. CA has the potential for more wildfires, so it makes sense for them to have the resources on hand. Texas has relatively few compared to them, so it's financially prudent to not have firefighters on the payroll just in case.

As for cutting volunteer fire departments, only a liberal would not get that "volunteer" means "unpaid".

From the big city are you? Let me help you with the concept, equipment son, equipment, training son, training. Training and equipment cost money, glad I could help you with that.

That came out of your imagination. I spent my life fighting wildfire, I know, more that most, what they do. I also know what they do when fire crews do not have the material and equipment they need.
