As for the illegal immigration problem and using e-Verify -- I continue to be enrolled in the program and will use it to help me determine a prospective applicant's eligibility status -- but cautiously, as the program can be prone to errors.

As for the Elian Gonzalez, I was merely making a statement on how messy and controversial it can be when deporting an illegal immigrant from the US.
K, I'm calm .. I am from FL so the Elian disaster is quite close to me. It was only messy/controversial because of recent immigrants from cuba (legal/not legal) acting like jackwagons because the laws in our country/their old (which strangely most of them hate but love being proud of) didn't agree w/ them. Most other people and the law saw it as a simple problem/solution....

When you let too many of this kind of junk in your country, you have messy/controversial enforcement of law... Which only speaks more strongly to the point of being more strict on enforcement of immigration so as to not have an even 'bigger' mess on your hand. You think a couple thousand pig headed people are a problem...? wait until its a couple million.

I am glad you use e-verify for employment enrollment.. many employers don't and even illegally registers known illegals under false SSN/etc .. Kudos to you .. while prone to errors, it serves as a base system that will only get better w/ time .. there are other things that can be done to further verify whether someone is illegal or not .. i dont think there should be any restrictions on the amount of information necessary to do so.

Oh California, you make yourself known time and time again...
This is just crazy. In the last couple decades life has become so distorted that I don't even recognize it. Now I'm just another old guy who wonders where the world I knew went. This one is certainly not it.

From the article:
Quote:
For Wegener of Conservative Activists, the battle now shifts to the federal level, where Congress is considering a measure proposed by Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas), and co-sponsored by Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley) and others, that would make a system like E-Verify mandatory for all employers.
E-Verify is exactly the solution that I've been proposing for the last several years. I don't think there's any need to build border walls. The solution is far simpler. All you have to do is force employers to verify legal right to work before hiring anybody. Most of the people entering the country illegally are doing it for jobs. Most of them will go home if there aren't any jobs. If most of them go home most of the problem will be solved, and solving most of the problem is good enough for me.

For those of you who believe we need the illegals for our economy, fine. Get a sensible system to decide which ones we need or how many, then authorize them to work legally. All I want is for the government to have a system in place. No system is not a system.

Boys, there is money involved, if everify gets in the way of one side or the other making money, it will be circumvented, good ole Yankee or Yanqui ingenuity.

As far as a workable system, we had one, it worked fine. for some odd reason it was disposed of. Of course it came into being because the field workers before them were all put into Concentration camps.

I think some of you would be happy if we did that again.

Default New California law bars E-Verify requirement for employers

Well, this one would take care of that.

Capitol Alert: Conservative activists propose initiative on illegal immigration

Of course, it will never make it since most of it makes too much sense.

No, wrong reason. It will never pass because California is controlled by liberals and because even if it passed congress the governor would veto it.

The only reason that legislation was proposed at all (in my opinion) was to appease conservative constituents, whatever few of them are left.

Boys, solve this problem,
California Ag is a $40 billion direct dollar industry, its indirect benefit to the states economy, ie, truck tractor purchases, groceries for employees etc is several hundred billion dollars.

Whether you like it or not, California Ag is utterly dependent on illegal labor. If you remove that labor without replacing it with something, you will crash the economy of the state to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars.

It would be much like what happened to Spain when they expelled the Jews.

Not one of the complainers about illegal labor has a clue as to what to do after they are gone, and that is both funny and sad.

It might take as long to fix this as it did to get where we are but doing nothing is getting real expensive.

I don't mind the illegal labor that much, particularly agricultural. Here in the San Fernando Valley (NW L.A. for those unfamiliar with CA) we don't have much agriculture left. Why are they here? What justifies that?

I'd rather pay more to get my lawn mowed, more to get my house remodeled, and utilize Americans who have a right to work here.
