1st impression of CA christmas 77. (coming on a jet from france ) delores park SF, beautiful incredible clouds waving palm trees green grass, mostly clear skys about low 60's.
just sitting in the park dead winter, gorgeous, paradise but the people--- omg druggies and drunks sitting on the park benches all day long, all of them in hell, looks like somebody kicked over a rock, dirty out of their head, quarrelsome hell in the middle of paradise.
that 1st impression never changed. what a beautiful place but what is wrong with the people?

Trolling work? Or do you have to lure them in otherwise?

The most common comment received by our visitors bureau from travelers is how much people here make eye contact and smile and say hello to complete strangers.

Of course we avoid all of the above with people we know personally.

In my experience, Southern California (LA/OC/SD) as well as South Florida(Miami/FLL/West Palm) have the highest percentage of the type of people you describe. They have similar cultural attributes. More materialistic, more rude, more concerned with weather, more concerned with their immediate concerns, more concerned with money.

No, not everybody in those areas is like that...however, in my experience across the country you are likely to bump into those types way more than anywhere else.

Chicago has people like this also, but again, it's nothing like SoCal or SoFla. I've lived in all 3 states.
In FL and CA...North/Central/South are all much different places culturally respectively.

True! One of the reasons I keep coming back. Writing from Auburn at the moment.

I remember December 1977. Back East, people were freezing to death trying to get home from work because of a massive blizzard, and there I was wearing only shorts, sitting on the sand in Capo Beach in the late evening, drinking wine and having a good old time. I can remember thinking that I should probably be feeling guil.... NAAAAWWWW.

Not me, credit goes to BVitamin for finding it first. I just did a full quote of both.

South Florida is full of the types you describe, but I think Southwest Florida is different, different vibe of people mainly from the midwest but the money thing is rampant but people are less Jersey there.

I met more nicer people from Chicago than NY/NJ and etc. The NY/NJ vibe here is the stuff you see on Real Housewives of New Jersey. The same look and attitude. Then toss in Jersey Shore types.

I'm more so sick of South Florida based on the dismal tech jobs here and the salaries suck in comparison as does the level of work.

That would depend on the mods here paying attention to what's going on here...[cough]
