For a middle class person, which "major" city is the best to live in the state? You should take into consideration; job market, affordability, crime, suburbs, beaches, education etc.

You missed a few. There are 456 incorporated cities in CA and 22 towns.

Class distinction is the enemy of the people. So are cities.

Toss up between SD and SF.

I don't think a "middle-class" person could live that comfortably in San Francisco.

I do love San Diego in all sorts of ways.

I voted Sausalito, but the average middle-class person will be hard pressed to be able to live in Sausalito.

Orange County: Lots of jobs, excellent schools, close to the beach, perfect weather, world class computer, electronics, and biotechnology leader, home to many corporate headquarters, close to mountains, diverse restaurants/services/products, diverse geography, easy day trips to LA and SD metros, lots of housing options, several universities for on campus living or commuting, professional baseball and hockey, modern, wide freeways, metrolink, amtrak, easy convenient airport and one hour drive to several other airports including LAX, excellent place for families, singles, ethnic communities, masterplanned communities, beach communities, traditional communities, mostly low crime, world famous reputation for desirability.

For a "middle class" person? Sacramento metro area. You can actually afford a home. Well, "could" afford a home if you can find one - the stock has pretty much dried up due to recent high demand.

I had no idea a middle class lifestyle affords one the ability to live on the water and drive around in Porsche Cayennes and Ferraris. What's all this I hear about California being an expensive place to live?
