In the trashbin of history forever.
The USSR was not socialist. It may have had the word in it's official name but that was the extent. It was a Marxist state in the form of Lennen(sp?). A system unique to it.

This is why socialism is such a stigma in this country. Because so many like you don't even know what it is.

Completely idiotic to quote that statement. Most modern democracies today are socialist to varying degrees yet France, Canada Australia ect. are no where near becoming communist.

The usual typical leftist excuse and defense of socialism and Marxism; everyone else is doing it so it must be okay, you should try it. Plus the whining about how so and so does not know anything about socialism or communism, we get this over and over on CD. Perhaps we should listen to some real experts, those have lived under communism or socialism. As we all know, SoCal is home to many former residents of the old Soviet bloc, and I have met a few of them, both at work and socially over the years. Romanians that lived under Ceausecue, East Germans that were under the horrible watch of the Stasi, Chinese under Mao, Russians, etc. Every single one of them, when they were willing to talk politics, said the same thing; America is rapidly losing it's freedoms by going socialist and is in great danger of becoming even worse, a communist nation.

Okay, you want Democratic Socialism, not communism? Take Sweden, often used as an example of this. For some time I dated a Swedish woman, and she told of how stifling and controlled life was there, that was why she came to America. Want more? Met a couple that once considerd themselves very liberal. They both worked for the same company and got what they thought was the dream job offer, a two year assignment to Stockholm. After a few months in Sweden they were counting the days until they could come back home. They had not realized how much freedom they had left behind in America until they actually lived in a socialist nation. Perhaps when liberals claim that compared to European leftists they actually are not that far to the left they just might actually be correct, although do still remain a bit skeptical on that point.

As I am known to say -- over and over and over and over -- "freedom" is a state of mind and spirit. And the purest "freedom" is free mind and spirit naked with a sharp stick in a climatically hospitable environment with some fish and wild game and edible roots, berries, nuts, and so forth. If you're not up for "pure freedom", then stick with a good attitude ... which is tougher in frozen, dark, Sweden and Russia and overpopulated China than in much of America -- and especially in comparison to California.

What "freedom" do you think you have that is being taken away by the bad socialists? Are the roads going to disappear? Streetlights? Fire and police and national defense? Retirement security and medical? Basic education for your children?

Or are you, as a member of the top 1% economic class, concerned your opportunity to climb to the top .001% will be thwarted?

I'm assuming that you must be in the very top bracket of the wealthy since you defend the policies that protect that lifestyle at the expense of the general population -- you know: the "small people"?

Look, there has never been a communist state. What you think of as communism and commie socialism is actually Bureaucratic Totalitarianism. Quite a different beast.

No one on this board has ever defended Marxism, that is from someone's imagination, as for defending socialism, why not? It works well, even in this country.

Heck I had a job where the taxpayers paid my salary, paid for my meals, paid for my housing, paid for my medical care, paid for my 30 days vacation per year, paid for my transportation, socialism in action. Seems to work fine.
Sweden? Any place where the office girls and secretaries take their lunch in good weather in the parks, with their shirts and bras off, sounds rather free to me!

Once again, Black Shoe is conflating* socialism with Marxism. That's a common trait of the extreme right.

Sure, I had the same job earlier in my life. So did roughly 22 million other Americans, including nearly 2 million in California. We are the American Veterans, those men and women that served our nation in uniform. Socialism, not hardly, LOL. Socialism promotes egalitarianism. Can you think of anything less equal than military service, with it's very structured system of class, rank, and chain of command?

Actually, I suspect .high is referring to his career as a wildland firefighter ... but, nevermind ...

Anyhow, "Socialism promotes egalitarianism" ... so, you love "freedom" but hate "egalitarianism"?
Talk about walking off a cliff with your eyes open and looking down ...

Socialism is Marxism. To deny this is a trait of leftists of any persuation, extreme or center left.

Wrong again. I detest class envy and class warfare, which the left heavily promotes and encourages. It is divisive, counterproductive, and harmful to all levels of our society.
