I saw a similar ranking of CA counties overtime since the 1960. The top 10 counties has not budged. The Bay Area was always wealthier than SoCal.

Wow! CA is still upside down. Wishful thinking is that someday it will turn itself around and the salaries will be where they should be in order to be able to afford the housing. Probably just a pipe dream though.

Pre 1980, that was the case...but, good old greed infected the fine people of Cali and the rest is history.

I'm surprised to see Sacramento ranked above San Diego and just below LA/OC. You really get a lot of bang for your buck there!

What this tells me is that no matter where in CA you live, if you are an average family in CA you will barely be able to afford run-down dump that is unsafe for your kids.

In lieu of that, I guess you can rent, but if it's anything like TX you basically flush most of your rights down the toilet and become slave to the landlord.

Thinking about it, it makes me a little sad. If I could have the house, lot and equivalent job I have here... I'd move to SF, SD or Santa Barbara in a heartbeat.

You are absolutely correct! Those average wages in CA do not allow for the purchase of a home. Worse than sad..it's highway robbery.

And rents in CA are over the top as well.
