There are so many articles about how overpriced California is and the fact that you can live in other states (Texas, North Carolina, Georgia) that aren't so expensive. Anyone ever move to some of these places and end up moving back? Just curious.

i've moved back before. moved once to arizona and couldn't wait to get back. would never have left again if housing wasn't so out of line. the sad truth is that "home" isn't like it used to be, but it is still home.

Not me. CA is no longer the place it was when I grew up there.

Ditto, but I couldn't wait to get back when I left. That said, is anywhere the place it was when any given person grew up there? Especially old farts like you.

Not me personally, but I had two friends to give Charlotte, NC a try. They came and tried it for 2years and moved back. The biggest complaints I heard from them was:
1. Not enough to do
2. Not enough companies for employment
3.Weather sucked
4.They missed the sidewalk, outdoor cafes, the boardwalk, the beach,
"They felt like they were in a cultural void"

Like I said, Suffice to say they moved back to LA. - Yes they missed the cost of living that Charlotte offered, but not the quality of life.

Sadly, there is not - not even for a young fart like me. If there was, I'd be there aside from the fact that if my old home was on the market now it would sell for well over $1 million.

That reminds me, three years ago someone here on C-D predicted that we'd move back to California in two years. I may be wrong but I think they were a bit off. But I'll have to admit, if it was financially plausible (I love ocean-front communities for the most part - rich tastes on a beer budget) I just might seriously consider it.

Moved out three times, moved back twice. Now unlikely I would move back again, except to get a vacation home/condo at the beach.

We left with no intentions of returning but we have friends and 2 of our kids who did leave and return. Of our friends, some stayed, others left again. Our kids, neither stayed, both now live in Florida and neither would move back to Ca...
