Is there anywhere in California where the air is not polluted with Smog or Haze. I really would like any information as I have severe emphysema and must move to an area where the air is clear.

Far north. But why must you move to CA? Is someone holding a gun to your head?

Move to Crescent City or Eureka and trade bad air for good tsunamis and a thriving herb trade.

Lots of places would meet the need of the OP but to make it useful the responses to questions about need for a job, budget, etc. would also need to be posted. The matching places would likely have limited jobs or high housing costs or both.

I would like to stay in California because all of our children and grandchildren live in this state. I live in Riverside County and the air quality here is horrible. The entire area is always covered with a dense shroud of Haze. Not only do I have severe emphysema, I am also allergic to the allergens in haze. The allergens inflame and constrict my windpipe and make beathing extremely difficult. I am on oxygen 24/7. I feel like a caged animal because I cannot go outdoors on most days, and the haze even gets inside my house when a door or window is opened and through all the small openings under doors and around windows. My Wife and I are both retired so a job is not needed. I can afford a home in the $150,000 price range but not much more. I have no debts so financing should not be a problem.

The specific allergens will also need to be considered then.

For example if the allergens include the native plants found extensively on hillsides in Central and Southern California then you might want to look higher into the Sierras and far Northern California, etc.

Its a tough situation. I met someone several decades ago who retired from a midwest city to the Arizona desert for the same reasons but found they had reactions to things in the air there. A doctor recommended trying the California coast but they had problems with the pollen from the native grasses. I don't know where they went next.

No need for a job will help. That price range might be doable in some of far Northern California areas, hopefully someone with more info about the area can help with that.

Do you need/want close access to any specific services? For example some people prefer to be close to certain entertainment or VA clinics or other things.

There are more parts of California without smog or haze than with it.

Nice of you to finally mention that part. Good luck, wherever you end up living.

I have a friend that had that same problem, ended up moving to S Lake Tahoe and did fine there.

Look into Lake County! It's beautiful here in a sort of rustic & wild style and we have some of the cleanest air in the whole country. And $150K will get you a very nice home.

We definitely have the four seasons here and for 8-10 weeks in the summer it's quite hot, so you'd want AC just for comfort. There are areas where winter would be minimal, though, in case you are adverse to it.

Here's CD's page on Lakeport, for instance: http://www.city-data.com/city/Lakeport-California.html and there are nice areas about 5 miles north off of Highway 29. Also some possibilities on the east side of Clear Lake in Lucerne, Nice and Clearlake Oaks.

Also, in your general search, you may want to check out this site: Pollution Locator: Smog and Particulates
