I currently live in Exeter and have lived near Rocklin (and my brother lived there for years) so I am familiar with both areas. I think that where you decide to live really depends on how much you're willing to drive, and how close you want to be to the majority of your shopping OR your job. I think that Woodlake is beautiful, but I would never choose to live there. Exeter is probably the most centrally located (between the park/work and shopping) and really is a nice little town with decent schools. Exeter has a lot of small town charm, with it murals, parks, and friendly residents. I've lived here for 3.5 years and will stay another 1.5 until school takes me out of state. Having said that, I would not move to the central valley if I didn't have too--because of the poor air quality here. But that is the only big downside to the area, really. But if a job is bringing you here, Exeter or Three Rivers would probably be your best choices to live.

I hope this helps! =]

Visalia is a nice place and could go on and on about all the good things but will concentrate on the bad.
1) The air quality is BAD - BAD - BAD
2) Fog - can make visibility difficult
3) Valley Fever (caused by a fungus ) can be hard to treat.
4) Second rate medical care - most good doctors dont want to live out here.
5) High crime rate- almost daily shootings / stabbings in Visalia or surrounding towns.
6) High welfare / poverty rate.
7) Lots of drug abuse.

I havent been back to Cali in a while, but it seems like i remember the roads into three rivers being closed in the winter sometimes because of snow. Wouldnt that mean that anyone who commutes may be SNOWED OUT?

If you're on the blue-state side of the fence, I'd pick Three Rivers. A funkier community, and why commute farther to Sequoia if you don't have to? The downside would be that you'd have to do all your shopping in at least Exeter and probably Visalia, but you'd have generally nicer surroundings (some nice houses up in the hills there). Three Rivers also seems to be above most of the bad air quality, and has much less of the crime/gang issues of Visalia. It may be a bit more expensive though.

If you're of the red-state persuasion, you would probably feel more comfortable in Visalia or Exeter.

People do the Three Rivers-Visalia commute. Highway 198 is not a hard drive, it just depends how far off the highway you live.

The only caveat I would have is that you will encounter a few weeks every year with the valley's thick Tule fog. That will slow a commute. It averages about 30 to 35 days a year of the thick fog.

Have you checked out Exeter? That may be better if you are concerned about the drive. It is right in the middle. My hubby's boss drives from Three Rivers each morning for work. Lots of people do it also. Three Rivers has an eclectic group of people Some are kind of strange... no offense to anyone who lives there It is beautiful. Check out Exeter though. Great schools, small town, nice quaint city close to Visalia and Three Rivers. Good luck!

Well visalia is a pretty good place to live so is exeter there is really almost no crime in exeter visalia is like two worlds if you move to visalia stay on the south side because the north side has a very dangrouse twist to it it has alot of drug abuse and and gang infestation with quiet a bit of murders that take place on that side of town also on the south side its kinda bad ass well by santa fe st just stay as far away as you can from the north side just a lil safety tip
