I'm planning to be a marine biologist, or something along those lines, and I'm debating which place to settle for.

I'm going to be a student at Fresno State then hopefully transfering to a UC or other state college in California. I'm just having a probelm choosing where to go.

Some say Santa Cruz is a good beach city, and some say Monterey Bay is aa good beach. Which is better? Or is there another beach city that is perhaps better? Advice for which beach area is better for a younger person would be much appreciated. Thank you.

It depends on affordability, the academic programs, and your ability to get accepted. UC is not a state school but rather a higher tier university with higher standards.

Also, what is the demand for recent graduate marine biologists? What is your Plan B?

How do those biology programs compare? Is any one more in line with your interests?

Which university has more affordable living options?

Would you have to work while in college? Which university community might allow better options?

Any potential scholarships? Maybe you could be looking outside of CA, maybe Florida, Oregon, or other states with a coastline and marine biology studies.

Santa Cruz is very nice, but I prefer the SoCal beaches more. Manhattan, Redondo, Newport, Santa Monica or Hermosa.

San Diego is great for a young person IMO.

UC San Diego/Scripps Institution of Oceanography is a good place to consider. But from what I know it's harder to transfer to a UC from a CSU than it is a community college.

Why not start at a community college and then transfer to a UC?

I've heard that Monterey Bay is the mecca for marine biology. As far as the best beach city to live in it depends what your priorities are.

Don't "settle" for nutin' Determine what you want to be doing in 10 years, in 20 years. Put together a plan to get there.

If your decision making must include a fine beach to lie upon. Very few jobs await those who major in Beach.

I tried to major in "Beach" but learned you can't eat sand. So, had to do something to make lunch, dinner and breakfast money. I have my van now and it ready for the beach..it is good to have some money in the checking account.
