I want a train too, but this plan was ill conceived, poorly managed and extremely wasteful, and they haven't even broken ground yet. We can do MUCH better than this, and if we can't then I'd rather spend $68 billion on other more pressing transportation needs, than to continue this farcical boondoggle.

Kudos to the judge for exercising common sense and prudence.

Thank god this is blocked, I hope it stays blocked. The low speed rail was such a boondoggle of the highest order. They are asking to double license fees to pay for roads when they were going to spend billions more on a train that no one was going to use, welcome to California.

Spend the money on relating existing infasteucture, adding/expanding highways/freeways, and expanding public transit. All of these things would be cheaper and are needed more than a train that is more expensive and takes longer than flying from the Bay Area to LA.

my question is:

why dont they just start building a subway system?

start slowly, make a spider web and centralize downtown LA.

Yep... would have been CA's version of the Big Dig in Boston... might still be... *shudder*. I plan on researching how I can best use whatever energy I have left at the end of the day to help defeat this ka-ray-zee plan once and for all with extreme prejudice... there's reason to hope that Cooler Heads Will Prevail if someone would just stop this Crazy Train (no pun intended).

1. It's centralized already.
2. L.A. is a decentralized city and it's counter intuitive to continue building that way.

The train is an awesome idea, but there are more pressing infrastructure needs at this time.

High speed rail would be an amazing addition to Cal. Our current rail system is so slow ... it takes 13.5 hrs to get from Martinez to LA, while driving is 6 to 7 hrs. If the high speed rail would only be 3 hours, then I'd be going down to LA every other month!
