Quote:
A Sacramento County judge ruled Friday that the agency overseeing the California bullet train failed to comply with the financial and environmental requirements voters were promised when they approved initial funding for the project five years ago.

But rail officials said the project will proceed as planned with a groundbreaking this summer after Superior Court Judge Michael Kenny said the Legislature was within its authority last year to approve the first $8 billion phase of the project anyway.

Kenny said the rail authority "abused its discretion by approving a funding plan that did not comply with the requirements of the law." After another round of court briefs, the judge will hold another hearing to determine whether to penalize the California High-Speed Rail Authority.
and that's all I have to say about it.

And this is why it's difficult to get anything done in the state. Someone sues and/or someone rules about almost everything.

That depends on whether or not the thing that gets done is a good thing.

I don't understand why the HSR cannot be designed so that it just connects to existing outlying mass transit systems the cities it will serve. Does it really need to go further into San Diego than Escondido? Why can't it just have a transfer station at on of the LA metro stations on the 210 then follow the 210 around LA. Stop at the Freemont BART station, how much would costs then be reduced?

I doubt HSR will create enough revenue to stay in operation, let alone pay the bonds off that it'll take to build it.

Instead of focusing on better transit WITHIN our metros, we're spending billions on what will be an empty bullet train in between them.

BART has trouble operating these days. LA has abysmal public transit. Our priorities are embarrassingly messed up.

Glad I left the state.

Since you left the state, stop using "we" and "our" to identify with us Californians.
