Uggh. Not me. Can't stand that. No one refers to Texas as "Texi" or Oregon as "Ori".

Philistines.
But they do say Philly and not Phil. Or perhaps cities have a different set of rules...

The announcer during the recent Cal Poly vs Texas Southern game said "San Looey Obispo" a couple of times before someone corrected him. Ugh.

I wonder if anyone will say "Cal Poly San Looey Obispo is playing Wichita State in Saint Looey today."

Yeah, but that's not really that well known a place nationally. You can't blame people who don't know the place for not knowing the bastardized pronounication of the place--although Loo-ey sounds like the French pronounciation of Louis rather than the Spanish Luis. I grew up a couple hours to the north of the place and calling it San Lew-is Obispo, yet I'll forget and say San Lew-eez Obsipo these days.

I used live to a couple hours from Del Norte County and I'd accidentally pronounce it Del Nor-tay rather than the "Del Nort" pronounciation that's used up there. There's all kinds of regional pronounciations that people won't recognize unless they're from a place.
