You'd be surprised how easy it is to get your guns confiscated. I have a co-worker with a large collection. One night after his Father died he was sitting outside talking to his sister. He was pretty tanked and mentioned something about how they would be better off without him. He was talking about "living" with them in their house. His sister invited him to live with them. His neighbor heard it as he was going to off himself and called the cops. He went through hell to get his guns back.

Now, all of this was told by him so I don't know all the details.

It doesn't seem ever to occur to these legislators that most criminals and crazies don't bother following ANY laws to obtain weapons---since they're usually planning to use them for criminal purposes anyway. Like the dunce who's mayor here trying to force businesses to put up 'Gun-Free Zone' signs: like a crook who's planning to rob you anyway is going to care about a sign: and that's assuming he can read in the first place! LOL

Advertising a gun free zone is like leaving your door wide open for criminals to walk right in. Criminals prey on people and areas that are gun free because they know they can do what they want and get away before anyone with a gun shows up to stop them. No criminal is going to try and pull sh*t in an area with lots of people armed who can stop them.

More guns is ALWAYS the solution.

What stops 1 bad guy with a gun? You guessed it.... A gun! = more guns
What protects Obama? You guessed it more guns.
What protects are troops? More guns!

You only need to look to Switzerland for proof. They are 4th in the world for guns per capita but have the lowest crime rates in the world, its virtually nonexistent. The men are required to have a rifle and ammo in every home and its not uncommon to see men and women carrying rifles about town.

I agree with you with regards to your run of the mill criminal who has been committing crimes most of his life. But the crazy psychos who shoot up random people for no reason are a different animal. They pretty much have nothing on their records (note: this is an educated guess as i have not bothered to look up the criminal records of some of the famous recent mass shooters). Their first offense is often their last. Would these psychos find ways to get guns illegally? Perhaps. But then again, since it is not in their nature to commit crimes, maybe not. I don't know.

Also, I agree "gun free zones" are dumb because obviously the life long criminals and the psychos once they "go off the edge" are not going to abide by them.

My first thoughts are that I am not against this proposed bill. I would have to think about it some more. But I would also like to hear some better ideas from ALL on how to keep guns out of the hands of people who are suffering depression or mental illness.

The proof is the pudding about how effective 'gun-free zones' are: when was the last time you heard of an armed robbery at a police station?

Switzerland's homicide rate via firearms is one of the highest in Europe, over 10x higher than the UK.

Admittedly, their homicide rate is nothing compared to the United Stares, which has the most guns per capita in the world and (not surprisingly) is the most violent industrialized nation in the world.

Never occurs to fanatics that there might be other factors for a statistic - than the concept they advance to make their point. Tsk. Switzerland is SO a mirror of the U.S. in every way imaginable.
