Monterey. Gorgeous setting, great climate, tons of things to do and see, good dining options and clean air. Just an hour from San Jose without having to deal with all the urban problems.

You left off some of the best cities in the state and nation and didn't even put an option for other My vote is Newport Beach followed closely by Laguna Beach.

The issue is money. Where and what kind of finances do you have? You can live in Modesto, but you can't live in Half Moon Bay for the same amount of money.

I like a few places. Beverly Hills, Malibu, Ventura County, OC, Rancho Mirage, Big Sur, Santa Barbara, Yosemite.
