Can someone please give me some information on Taft, CA? My daughter and I are looking for colleges and came across Taft College for its resonable tuition prices for non resident students and they have housing. Any information would be helpful. Thank you.

Taft College is a Community College, 2 year degree.
Taft is an isolated town built on the second largest oil field in the lower 48. Hotter than hell in the summer with similar cultural amenities.

I don't think anyone choses to live in Taft.

They live there because there are jobs in the oilfields and servicing those who work in the oilfields.

I was there last weekend, lots of vacant stores downtown.

Speaking just for my self, I'd probably shoot myself before I moved there. O'course I say the same thing about Southern California.

Taft College has a very well-regarded online degree program. Many of their students are hundreds of miles away from Taft, which is a sad little town with a history of troubled race relations. I can recommend the college but not the town. Good luck to you.

Troubled Race Relations? Can you explain that a bit?

Robin Williams and Kurt Russell are in a film set in Taft. The Best of Times.

I don't remember when it was but there were incidents of Taft College students who happened to be Black being harassed and the coverage at that time indicated it was a problem of longstanding. Perhaps someone from Taft would have more details. But I repeat, the college is awesome.

Interesting, I was just there for parts of two days, and saw no blacks at all.. mostly just good old South San Joaquin Valley Rednecks.

I believe Taft was named for our 13th president, Millard Fillmore. Apart from that, I don't know much about the place.

It may help you to know what the original name of the town was; Moron.

No, I am not attacking you, that was the name of the town!
