Today's the day ti starts that if you as a California resident use too much water you will be fined for it and pay a bill. So how are we going to save water when washing the dishes, clothes, showering, baths, etc.

My parents suggested for washing the dishes to put a bucket in the sink and wash that way and then just rinse really quickly do not take 10-20 minutes to wash thats wasting water.

Not sure how we are going to save on water use here.

Some things are just common sense that are really nothing more that awareness...

Others wasters are doing so consciously... like the inflatable dam that was destroyed in the East Bay.

Some are getting very clever... I've noticed many ideas to shift water usage... like taking showers at work or sending out laundry...

A very successful pilot program is free teated wastewater available for residents with the ability to transport...

Lots of creative ideas...

I don't think you will be fined for using 'too much water' but rather for violating the simple rules that most water districts have put in place, like only watering on certain days, and not washing your car with a hose that doesn't have a shut off.

You pay excessive use fee if you go above your allotted amount in those municipalities that are metered.

But yes you are correct there are some violations that will incurr a fine.

how much water has your family been using, and what is the number of gallons that will cause a higher rate? Before you do anything else you should figure that out. Then you can go to a number of websites that allow you to calculate how much water each household activity uses, here's one but there are dozens of other sites Water Science Questionnaire #3: Water use at home Maybe then you can figure what you need to cut back on.

I think 2sleepy may be in the same water district that I am--they seem more concerned about getting sufficient money to make their bond repayments than saving water.

I recently received their newsletter full of water-saving tips while filling my swimming pool, hot tub and ornamental fountain. I would have thought those would have been the first things to cut off totally.

EBMUD is asking 35 gpd per person... could be why business is booming at the local car wash and laundromats...
