I just brought a new car in California. I know all the new cars in CA only have a temporary registration that gets tucked away in the corner of the front windshield. Now I have to drive my car, moving to Florida and I can not wait until I get the formal tag. Can I do that? Will I be stopped by the police since I don't have a tag on the way to Florida? what can I do for that...

As long as you have a valid temporary tag. But you WILL probably be stopped a lot!

Yes, be prepared to be pulled over. In many states the police follow you and run the license plates for out-of-state vehicles, but they won't be able to do that with you.

As long as you have the dealer's advertising plastic/paper plates they are not likely to bother you, knowing that it's new. Unless you get a hard nose in one of the southern states.

Done it two years ago.

Got pulled over six times. Spent time in jail. Was beat up by the cops and locals on several occasions. My wife was spared any injustice due to the fact she is a lady and an attorney at law.

My advice is to not worry about it. Our experience taught us that it was no big deal. Just carry your proof of purchase papers.

I live in Arizona and see these cars from California on our freeways daily. I have yet to see one pulled over. I would recommend keeping the temporary dealership plates on the car. If the highway patrol here in AZ can tell that the car was purchased at a California dealership, I doubt there will be any trouble. Don't just ride around other states without anything in the license plate holder. That seems to be asking for trouble.

WHAT~!! spent time in Jail? That's too ridiculous ... Did you show the proof documents to the police when you got pulled over?

I purchased a car in California and drove it into Arizona the next day with temporary tags. Continued to drive it until I was received my plates.

Only another driver had an issue with it when I did something that pissed him off... oops.

Check your vehicles manual, many times they suggest not driving at sustained speeds for extended periods of time during the first 1000 miles of "break-in" for the engine.
