Ya'll are making me crazy. I read the original news story on Facebook, from a local tv news station, who quoted it as saying $75-80 surcharge.

Ok, I went back and read the actual budget. In the Transportation section, linked below and previously on the last page of comments, it shows:

page 87: "Road Improvement Charge--$2 billion from a new $65 fee on all vehicles, including hybrids and electrics."

page 92: "Motor Vehicle Account Fee Increase--...the Budget includes a $10 increase in the vehicle registration fee."

So, $75. I don't know where the news story got their $75 or $80 from.

Do you know how a lot of companies conduct an "exit interview" when a long-time employee leaves the firm? Well, I kinda wish that California would give an "exit interview" for people who emigrate from the state. Next February, I retire and after having lived my whole 65 years of existence in SoCal, I'm ready to "get out of Dodge". Even though they don't really care, I'd sure like to give the powers-to-be an earful about why I'm leaving.

QWhat is the minimum/maximum amount that may be charged for VLF?
A The minimum amount of VLF for any vehicle is one dollar ($1). There is no maximum; the VLF is based on the value of the vehicle.

Okay, that makes more sense. Road Improvement AND Vehicle Account Fee adds up to $75. I don't mind paying more for a road improvement fee IF they actually improve the roads. We have some pretty crummy ones in California that need immediate attention. As for that motor vehicle fee. That's suspicious because they did that several years ago but I cannot recall why.

It said "Road Improvement Charge", not that it would be spent on such, just a reason for"charging" everyone.

But I agree, we need to secede and stop the Federal Govt from looting 30% of our income and spreading it across the poor red states.

Talk about Trickle Down Economy. CA is keeping the entire country afloat with our taxes. Imagine if we stopped the madness and kept all our money in CA instead of bailing out these poor red states that can't seem to get it together.

2016’s Most & Least Federally Dependent States
https://wallethub.com/edu/states-mos...vernment/2700/

Cali is in the BOTTOM 5.
46 California
47 Kansas
48 New Jersey
49 Connecticut
50 Delaware

Red states dominate the welfare state.
1 Mississippi
2 New Mexico
3 Alabama
4 Louisiana
5 Tennessee
Them thar Red States are run by some purtty smart people, to get all that money. Maybe they could help CA out by runnin for office in CA.
