The problem is a major one and no real way to fix it as part of the problem are the mountains that keep the air from easily moving east, so it allows the accumulation of the bad air. LA was known by the Indians (or some say the early European visitors) as the valley of smoke for a reason. It is a major problem and there is no real solution for it.

True and would be meaningless. Remember fuel economy has also reduced emissions per mile as well. However one way they are getting fuel improvements is by reducing the viscosity of oil, which is NOT a good thing for your motor. Yes I am in this industry (Among others) and it is being manipulated to fit the requirements in many ways that are not good. The reality is that there is no solution as long as we have cars, trucks, planes, trains, boats, cows (Methane gas) and too many people in bad areas for smog like the SoCal/LA area. Then of course we have the fires that are a regular feature of CA. Every Fall you can smell the leaves burning. The problem is they are still on the trees.

CA wont survive another recession. You'll see towns dissolve.

LA will certainly go under. They could already be insolvent today when we are not in a recession. Look at Dallas and Jacksonville.

which would actually have some good aspects, as no one wants to be in the city of L.A.

That's true. It would take a long time to recover, but LA would be better long term for it.

After all, everyone knows the ways things are today can't last. LA will continue to get worse as it has less and less money to deal with problems. Many cities are in the same spot.

The city of L.A. doesn't need to exist, because many services are provided by the county of L.A. not the city and those provided by the city are inferior to those provided by the county and by other cities in L.A. County.

If the city of L.A. is dissolved it would be a net plus in the long run

I see a future of electric cars running on electricity produced by solar energy. Especially here in sunny California.

Of course California is a state that has a lot of illegal immigrants.

What do you expect will happen?
Ca loves illegal immigrants. CA should import more illegal Asian immigrants to balance it out.

How about we do something smart and reduce legal immigration to balance out the illegals.
