What do you think ? Good idea or not ?
--
A bill pending in the state legislature, AB 186, would authorize eight California counties - Alameda, Fresno, Humboldt, Los Angeles, Mendocino, San Francisco, San Joaquin and Santa Cruz - to test so-called "safe injection sites."

The legislation faces tough opposition. Critics say it essentially endorses the use of illicit drugs. And it is not likely to sit well with the federal government, particularly under Attorney General Jeff Sessions, whose hard line on drugs is well-known.

Advocates argue, however, that a different approach is needed to stem the rising tide of addiction and related deaths.

A ‘safe’ space to shoot up: Worth a try in California?

Sounds like the old methadone clinics. I think they gave out free methadone and clean needles.

Not so sure I like the idea of giving them a place to do it, but before passing judgment I'd need to talk to the social workers, etc., who deal with the reality of it.

I'm all for it. The more needles used in these safe sites, the fewer I'll find on the beach, in parks, or other public places.

What exactly is so funny? The drug epidemic in the country has been escalating to astronomical proportions. There are a lot of states and cities with HUGE drug epidemic problems all over the country. I know you like to pound on how bad California is. I'm assuming your state is completely drug and drug user free? I doubt it.
If you read the rest of the article Seattle, Baltimore and Philadelphia are also looking at the program.
As much as the thought of using tax dollars for this disgusts me, druggies are going to shoot up regardless. Instead of shooting up in a alley, park or public RR and leaving these infected needles around this would be a option.

I remember watching this show on addictions. These two young women hell young babies cause neither were older than 19 were hooked on heroin. They were just going nuts trying to find a place to shoot up. They were literally freaking out they needed to shoot up so bad. They finally did it in a public bathroom all the while freaking out they were going to be discovered. When they left the rr they left some of the needles and syringes there.

This has been going on in Europe a long time. They dispense herion and needles to addicts. Hopefully politicians will study them and see the pros and cons before deciding if they should proceed
