You COULD do that.

But would Democrats accept the political fallout of screwing their staunchest allies (and voters)?

My guess is no. Without the backing of unions (and their families), they'd have to rely on illegal alien votes to take office again.

That's not true. I couldn't see the unions easily backing a Republican , and not a single illegal alien vote would be needed to make California vote Dem. Dems have a lock on CA now. I wish this was not the case but it is the sad reality. And it has little to do with illegal immigration.

You couldn't see unions and their families voting against the Democrats if Democrats cut their pensions .50 cents on the dollar?

Also you are severely underestimating the potential impact of the illegal alien vote. The Federal government estimates 1.8 million "voter age" illegals in California. That's nearly half of what Hillary Clinton won the state by in 2016.

They'd just vote for different Dems.

CA is the very last state that the Dems would need illegals in. Maybe in Texas they'd need illegals. Not one party CA. Even if illegals are voting in CA if anything they'd be less Dem than the rest of the populace, or just as much. Only Washington and Hawaii are bluer than CA. And given that the CA Repubs have become if anything even more out of touch and more incompetent I don't see this changing.

That's not my point. My point is they shouldn't be voting at all.

If you're down by 10 in a basketball game, the odds are you can probably make up the difference if you play hard.

If you're down by 20 or more, your chances go down significantly.

There's a reason why Democrats overwhelmingly oppose voter ID laws.

But that reason in CA is irrelevant. In other states, different story.

Personally I think all voting should be by mail like WA, OR, and CO.
