Why not both? We stayed at the Brewery Gulch Inn in Mendocino several years back and explored the town of Mendocino, Fort Bragg, and the coastline in between. They are only 10 miles apart.

I was wondering this, too. Maybe the intent of the OP's query was about deciding which town to choose for the hotel stay, as a base for exploration.

Nope, I did. I am soooo sorry. Fort Ross Loge isn't between Fort Bragg and Mendocino. It's south of Fort Bragg. Thank you for bringing that up or I'd still be living under the fog that it sat in the middle. Still, it's a beautiful place. Kind of isolated but if someone is more about nature and beauty and less about shopping and nightlife, it's the perfect place.

Fort Bragg. More to do. Go visit Mendocino for a couple hours though.

There's a wonderful park with a great coastal hike in Fort Bragg called the Fort Bragg Coastal Trail. It's not to be missed. It's so awesome that you'll go back. You can sit on a bench and watch whales migrate if you are there during the migration season.

There's a harbor with a marina and restaurants and it's several hundred feet lower than the rest of Fort Bragg. It's called Noyo Harbor.

There's a constant fog horn at the harbor and you can hear it throughout the city day and night. It's a very calming sound that won't bother you.
