I have to say I haven’t heard L.A natives use this term . Is it more a Bay Area thing possibly?
Or is it exclusively a thing people from out of state say ?
I honestly hardly notice it. But it seems to rile people up just as much OCers complaining about people calling it "the OC".

I've heard plenty of Californians say it. Mostly seem to be millennials or Gen Zers, though. I know this site does have a lot of baby boomers. Slang changes. Its whatever.

I live in Texas, am friends with several ex-Californians, and worked at the DPS (drivers license office) talking with Californians almost daily for years. The only people I've EVER heard say "Cali" were teens that thought it made them sound cool.

If you mean "Californians," then NO, it means they are actually not Californians.

Cali is a city in Colombia.

Frisco is a city in Texas.

Anybody using those terms shows that they are not Californians (or they are just plain ignorant).

I'm an older guy from Texas (but with family in CA) and I also loath the term "Cali". Emotionally, I associate the use of that term with young airheads who idealize California, but are not from there.

"Frisco" is indeed a town in north Texas (a prosperous Dallas suburb). Apparently, it has become a popular destination for some Californians who want to flee "the liberal menace" so that they can live in a place where everyone thinks the way they do.

I loathe thick Southern accents but I don't start threads about it. I also hate the sound of "Noo Yawk."
