It's 2019. We have self driving cars. People are still concerned about trains.

Trains have been outdated since the 19th century. It's now the 21st century.
We bringing back 8 tracks now? Horse and buggy? Telegraph?

BBM~~ to address.

NOPE~~~ However.. ONCE teleporting to alternative regions/Countries/possibly new planets is when Plane's/Trains and Automobiles become obsolete!!

Until then, Civilization must invest in future until such becomes reality.. THEN yes..

Trillions invested into infrastructure you speak of becomes necessary because Living/survival/ability to move place to place remains in order to survive NOW!! Doing nothing to improve current infrastructure because of FUTURE (POSSIBLE imagined things) possibilities.. trunckate maintaining growth and sustaining ?????

So.. What's your suggestion to address the degradation of Infrastructures of travel capabilities locally ( Roads/Bridges) within USA until future alternatives become reality and accessible /installed etc etc?

TYIA

By Russian and Chinese meddling, and by people like yourself believing whatever lie comes out of his mouth. Comey also aided in this mess.

I didn't vote for him but I understand why he won (you apparently still don't years later).

You're far more responsible for Trump than I am, and he'll win again (by larger margins in 2020).

I wouldn't mind an expansion of LOCAL rail. Similar to BART, but only if a private sector solution is found like in Japan (BART is totally mismanaged and has extremely large long term liabilities unfunded).

The problem is HSR was attempting to solve a problem that didn't exist. People are literally buying $59 tickets from LA to SF all the time. Why would those same people pay $200 for a HSR ticket that doet the same thing at three times the costs and travel time?

HSR never made any sense.

I lived in CA when this disaster of a project was launched. It was a horrible idea then, it's an even worse idea now.

It has nothing to do with "punishment" and everything to do with economics. Thank goodness Trump is being the adult in the room and telling the corrupt and wasteful politicians in CA that enough is enough.

If this train is such a great idea, then the taxpayers of CA should have no trouble footing the bill themselves, right?
