“There’s no Alabama dream, no Kentucky dream,” Gov. Gavin Newsom recently said. “There’s only the California dream, attainable and aspirational.”

Obviously, there are huge limitations to that dream. What do you think?

I think Newsom's California dream is much like Robin Hood's, steal from the rich and give to the poor.

I think his dream entails getting a certain segment of the voting population so dependent on the government to live, they won't dare vote them out.

Robin Hood did not "steal from the rich", he held up tax collectors and returned the money to those it had been taken from. In other words, Newsom's worst nightmare.

The California dream is to have bought your house a couple of decades ago.

For all too many people, it seems their golden dream consists of making the Bay Area as densely populated as Hong Kong.

Fortunately, some wise people decades ago created open space preserves. Those expanses of undeveloped land drive the would-be real estate speculators crazy. The Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve alone is a pristine 2,143 acres. Greedy people want to put 20,000 homes there. Never mind what that would do to traffic or the fact that the water can't be had. "We need affordable housing!" they cry. No, they're just annoyed they didn't buy 20 years ago.

There's no turning back the clock.

I'm obsessed with our state becoming more and more socialist. It scares the **** out of me. All one has to do is look at other socialist disasters.

But hey, keep raising taxes, keep letting illegal immigrants in, keep offering services to people that put nothing back in the system. At some point in time California will rerun out of other people's money.

Then what, raise taxes some more?

Mmmm? Like Germany, perhaps? Or Japan, Scandinavian countries, Canada, Australia, New Zealand ... all of which are more socially progressive by far than California is / can be within the structure of being a United State.

I am not a socialist, communist, capitalist, or any other kind of “ist” ... well, pretty much ‘atheist’ I guess you could say ... or ‘taoist’ even more so. But I see science illuminating certain realities that lend value / danger to the various policies called for by differing factions. Homo sapiens is a social animal ... and one that has exceeded, exponentially, its evolutionary biological design to live in massive societies ... these societies require social management that benefits the larger population ... without which the individual can’t survive either.

Exactly, I wouldn't want the USA to end up like any of those **** holes. Glad we finally agree on something.
